December 31, 2020 – Blue Mountain Humane Society (BMHS) was nominated for our Paw it Forward program by a customer who adopted their pup from the group and we are so glad we learned about the amazing work they do! Located in the Walla Walla Valley in Washington, the broad vision of BMHS is to end pet overpopulation and homelessness and to inspire a compassionate community. And they are working toward that vision by offering a long list of services to the local community that ranges from animal rehoming and fostering to dog licensing and assisting seniors and veterans. Some of our favorite unique programs offered by BMHS include:
• AniMeals: AniMeals assists senior citizens by providing free basic pet needs such as food, litter, grooming supplies and occasional veterinary care when required in an effort to remove some common obstacles that can prevent people from keeping their pets.
• Pets for Patriots: BMHS is a proud adoption partner of Pets for Patriots, a charity that operates nationally to save lives by matching adoptable pets with United States veterans and service members. Pets for Patriots works to improve wellness within the military community and promotes the adoption of often overlooked shelter pets.
• Senior Center Visits: Shelter pets make regular visits to assisted living, senior centers and skilled nursing facilities throughout the Walla Walla Valley, providing pet therapy sessions that share the unconditional love only pets can offer.
These programs are in addition to the adoption and foster and dog licensing programs done by most humane societies. We love the out-of-the-box thinking and far-reaching service programs that the Blue Mountain Humane Society offers to it’s local communities. It’s one of the reasons that we were so excited to include them on our long list of Paw it Forward partners when we heard about them through one of our customers!
